Myofascial Release (MFR)...... Research is enabling therapists to refine their work and to further understand the nature of the connective tissue and fascial system and the important role it plays in health. MFR is now recognised as a primary treatment for physical and emotional pain and discomfort.
Fascia, sometimes called fibrous bands or connective tissue, is a 3D continuous web of microscopic hollow tubules that extends without interruption from the top of the head to the tip of the toes. Within these hollow tubules are continuous fibres of elastin and collagen surrounded by a fluid called the ground substance. This network also provides the instant and continuous communication between each and every cell of our body.
Fascia surrounds, and protects every tissue, tendon, muscle, bone, ligament and organ of the body. In healthy conditions the fascial s system is relaxed and wavy in configuration. This provides a cushioning and supportive mechanism allowing us to move safely without restriction or pain. Collagen and elastin, fascias two main components, allow it to be very strong and it is very flexible.. Fascia is also dynamic in nature, it responds to internal and external forces applied on it meeting the resistance in order to protect.
Following all physical and emotional trauma and through poor posture, fascia scars
hardening the affected site. This causes the fascial network to lose its cushioning
mechanism and internal structures become pulled out of alignment. It creates an abnormal
pressure, up to 2,000 Ibs/ psi, damaging nerves, blood and lymphatic vessels and creating
tension on adjacent pain-
Fascia is like a 3D jumper, when the fascial network is traumatised it is pulled and twisted rather like a pull in the jumper. So, if the fascia has tightened creating bands of tension three dimensionally throughout the body; symptoms distant to the injury will be the result and all the appropriate localised treatments will only produce limited or temporary results.
A lot of patients are suffering unresolved physical and emotional pain because
Fascial restrictions do not show up on CAT scans, MRI's or X Rays. MFR with it's whole body approach treats the cause at the deepest level.
Research continues with the fascia, it is not as easy as one would like, a few hours after death the fascia dissolves, modern research uses electron microscopes.
The fascia gives us our form, it supports the whole body, without it we would be ‘jelly fish’ like, a mass on the floor. Even after trauma to surrounding tissues it can continue to grow, if not treated causing more pain, discomfort and twisting of the tissues, leading to our posture being affected and so, further injury and illness.
The practitioners treatment is not like any other massage, the fascia trauma will be felt and treated for up to 90 seconds before moving on, gliding into the tissues. The tension will be released like elastic re coil, enabling the tissues to freely move and glide as the body is used and worked.
Remember, many of normal medicines patients have gone undiagnosed with various ailments, it can lead to your mental health being affected through constant pain and or bad posture, it is the work of the practitioner that can solve these issues.
